What it is
A small letter in the Song of Moses, at the verse of Israel's forgetfulness.
Why it matters
The word for forgetting God ends in a letter that has itself nearly vanished — the neglect enacted in the script.
How it has been understood
Yod begins the divine Name. Tradition reads the shrunken yod as what happens when the Rock is forgotten: the Name does not disappear from the text, but it diminishes in the life of the forgetful. The letter waits, small but present, to be regarded again.
