What to look for
The final nun of mishpatan — 'and Moses brought their case before YHVH' — is written oversized.
What it is
An enlarged letter in the story of the daughters of Zelophehad, five sisters who petitioned for their father's inheritance.
Why it matters
Moses, who received the Torah at Sinai, does not know the answer to five women's question — so he carries it straight to God, and the law of Israel changes because of them.
How it has been understood
Tradition sees the swollen letter in 'their case' as heaven's own emphasis: this case mattered. Some add that Moses' willingness to say 'I don't know' is itself the lesson the big letter preserves.
