How Herodian Street and the 70 CE Collapse was found
Excavation along the western wall's base uncovered a flagstone street lined with shops, buried under a jumble of huge ashlars pushed off the wall above. Coins beneath the paving date the street to the time of the Roman governors, after Herod.
What it is
A street of thick limestone slabs about 10 meters wide, with a drainage channel beneath it and small shops on both sides. The paving stones are cracked where multi-ton blocks from the Temple Mount's parapet landed on them; the collapse has been left as found.
Why it matters for the Bible
This is the clearest physical picture of what Yeshua foretold in Mark 13 and what Josephus described in 70 CE. In the drain beneath the street, Reich and Shukron found cooking pots, coins and a Roman sword left by people who hid there during the siege, matching Josephus' account of rebels in the sewers.
