Mashiach / Christos — Messiah, the Anointed
מָשִׁיחַ
The Anointed One — the title of kings and priests poured with oil, concentrated onto the promised Son of David.
Judaism still awaits the Mashiach; Christianity is named for the conviction that He came. The word means someone drenched — in oil, in Spirit, in office. John's Gospel keeps both languages side by side so no reader misses that 'Christ' is a Hebrew hope, not a Greek surname.
