YHVH Ish Milchamah — The LORD Is a Man of War
יְהוָה אִישׁ מִלְחָמָה
'YHVH is a man of war; YHVH is His name' — sung on the far shore of the Red Sea.
Striking: the LXX translated it as the Lord who shatters wars — the Warrior whose war ends war. Both traditions hold the tension: He fights for the enslaved, and His final battle abolishes the battlefield.
First occurrence
Exod 15:3 — The Song of the Sea
Key passages
Isa 42:13 — 'YHVH goes forth like a mighty man… like a man of war'
Rev 19:11 — 'In righteousness He judges and makes war'
In the Greek Scriptures
Κύριος συντρίβων πολέμους (LXX: who shatters wars)
