The number 1 in the Bible — Unity
אֶחָד
One is the number of the uniqueness and indivisibility of God, founded on the Shema: "YHWH our God, YHWH is one (echad)" — and every biblical unity flows from it: one flesh in marriage, one body of believers, one Lord and one faith. The Hebrew echad can describe a compound unity (evening and morning, "day one"; one cluster of grapes), a point long weighed between Jewish and Messianic readers. Aleph, the silent ox, is the letter of strength and primacy — the One needs no sound to be first.
