The number 12 in the Bible — Government · The People of God

שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר

shneim asar · Greek: δώδεκα — dōdeka

Twelve is the architecture of God's people: twelve tribes, twelve stones on the breastplate, twelve loaves of showbread, twelve spies. Yeshua deliberately appointed twelve emissaries — the nucleus of restored Israel — and the New Jerusalem is a fugue on twelve: gates, foundations, fruits, and a wall of 144 cubits. Twelve is heaven's number for the ordered, governed people of God — three (divine) multiplied by four (creation).
