The number 50 in the Bible — Yovel (Jubilee) · Liberty · The Spirit
חֲמִשִּׁים
Fifty is seven-sevens-plus-one: the day after seven complete weeks. Shavuot falls on the fiftieth day — the day tradition assigns to Sinai and the day the Spirit was poured out in Acts 2: law on tablets answered by law on hearts, three thousand fallen at the calf answered by three thousand saved. The fiftieth year is the Yovel: proclaim liberty throughout the land — debts released, land returned, captives home. Nun the seed sprouts: fifty is release into new life.
