The number 80 in the Bible — Sequences of New Beginnings

שְׁמֹנִים

shmonim · Greek: ὀγδοήκοντα — ogdoēkonta

Eighty is eight — new beginnings — at the scale of ten: whole sequences of them. Moses was eighty when the bush burned and a shepherd's ending became a deliverer's beginning; 'if by strength' a life runs to eighty and looks for what follows; the land rested eighty years after Ehud, the longest peace in Judges. Pe is the mouth: the new sequence begins when God speaks — as He did to an eighty-year-old at Horeb.

Alef-bet letter: פ pe (value 80) — pictograph: mouth — speech, breath, the word going forth · letter page →
